Padró n

Mildly spicy member of the pepper family

Padrone - Product picture

Padrón peppers prove that chillies don't always have to be hot. On Nature's Pride own hot scale, these peppers actually score a zero. So, Padrón peppers may not be hot, but they still have a (mildly) spicy taste. There are also sweeter varieties.

The size depends on the country of origin. Dutch growers produce peppers of 5 to 7 centimetres, their Spanish colleagues a slightly smaller size. In both cases, the Padrón has the shape of a cone and a shiny appearance.

Recipes & preparation tips

The mildly spicy taste of the Padrón is a perfect fit for chilli soup. It is also suitable for grilling, accompanied by a herby dip. Roasted with sea salt, the Padrón is a lovely addition to a plate of tapas. The taste of the pepper can be influenced during preparation by removing the seeds and membranes. Washing and chopping is enough.
