Collective action now needed to secure healthy food

Our call to action at COP29

During the COP29 climate summit held in Baku and in an interview for CNBC, we urged international companies and organisations to take shared responsibility for a future-proof food chain. In the interview, Adriëlle Dankier emphasised that the choices we make today are decisive to secure supplies of healthy food for future generations.

Care for people and nature

The climate summit in Baku offered us a valuable opportunity to share our vision of sustainable food production worldwide. We shared that message as a member of the Dutch delegation at the summit and in an interview series with CNBC, the world leader in business news, about leading companies that integrate the principles of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals into their working methods and act as an inspirational example for the entire supply chain. Our engagement as a frontrunner in improving social welfarewellbeing, water management, biodiversity and climate was highlighted and we emphasised how chain collaboration is vital for a sustainable future.

Opportunities for the future

Adriëlle stressed that progress is only possible if companies, the public sector and communities across the chain join forces and collaborate to maintain our healthy food.

“To continue making progress - because there are always new goals - we make every effort to ensure others are aware that we have no future if we fail to take good care of people and nature. Sustainability is the ability to sustain your business. We believe that if you are intrinsically motivated to drive change, dare to take steps and inspire others to join in, you really can make an immensely significant impact. If other organisations collaborate with us in this way, they will also have the opportunity to form a firm foundation to achieve their sustainability ambitions. This aligns with our vision in which economic growth is integrally linked with everyone's responsibility to contribute to caring for people and nature. Only then can we let everyone enjoy exotic fruit and vegetables today and tomorrow!"

With this clear call to action and our active contribution at COP29, we have committed to accelerating the sustainability of the food chain. Together with partners worldwide, we continue to work on solutions that combine care for people and nature and commercial success.
