Growing and harvesting
Dragonfruit is the fruit of the cactus plant. It is also known as 'dragon fruit'. It takes eighteen months for the cactus plant to start bearing fruit. The harvest is just as special as the appearance of the plant: a piece is cut off the branch to separate the fruit. Vietnamese growers are able to grow pithayas year-round by using lighting.
After the harvest, the dragonfruits are sent to the Netherlands in large bulk packages (3 kg). At Nature's Pride, repackaging in consumer units awaits.
Packaging options
Loose per package of 3-4 kg, 8-10 pieces per package
Nature's Pride sells dragonfruit with the EAT ME package as standard. We are happy to discuss a private label with you.
Recipes & preparation tips
Dragonfruit is an excellent kickstarter for a fresh fruit salad, thanks to its soft and fresh sweet taste. The fruit also works well as a garnish in all manner of recipes. You can even make a surprising cheesecake with dragonfruit. All you need to do is cut the fruit in half (vertically) once. The dragonfruit can then be sliced or spooned out.
